Social Value Impact

PRM exists to reduce pressure on the services society depends on. by reaching people before they reach crisis. Our work is preventative: therapeutically informed support, delivered through talks and workshops in schools and workplaces, that builds understanding before problems require clinical or statutory intervention.

The challenge

  • Nearly one million children and young people had active referrals to NHS mental health services in 2023/24, and over 78,000 waited more than a year for treatment (Children's Commissioner for England).

  • NHS mental health services received a record 5.2 million referrals in 2024, with an estimated 1.7 million people waiting for care (NHS England; BMA analysis).

  • Around half of adults in England have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience (ACE); approximately one in ten have experienced four or more (national ACE surveys, Public Health England/Public Health Wales).

  • An estimated 46,000 children in England are involved in gang activity, with many more at risk of child criminal exploitation through county lines (Children's Commissioner for England).

  • Around 53,000 offences involving a knife or sharp instrument were recorded in England and Wales in the year to March 2025; children account for roughly one in six knife-crime convictions (ONS; Ministry of Justice).

  • Persistent school absence has nearly doubled since the pandemic, from 11% of pupils in 2018/19 to over 20% in 2023/24, with emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) a growing factor (Department for Education).

The PRM Solution

  • Recognising exploitation – through talks and workshops, young people learn what child criminal exploitation looks like and what a genuine positive role model looks like – helping them recognise grooming and exploitation early, and contributing to the reduction of gang involvement and knife violence.

  • Understanding ACEs – adults are introduced to adverse childhood experiences and the emotions they carry into later life – awareness that many would otherwise never encounter, and the first step towards seeking support.

  • Addressing EBSA – young people are given tools to understand their emotions and manage their reactions, alongside relatable role models to aspire to – supporting re-engagement with education before absence becomes entrenched.

  • Early, preventative support – all delivery is therapeutically informed support, not clinical intervention. By building understanding early, PRM reduces the likelihood that children and adults will need overstretched statutory services later.

The outcomes

  • Fewer children progressing to crisis-level mental health need.

  • Earlier recognition of exploitation, reducing entry into gangs and county lines.

  • Improved school attendance among young people affected by EBSA.

  • Adults with the awareness to understand their experiences and seek support sooner.

  • Reduced long-term demand on children's and adults' mental health services, education support, policing and social care.

PRM measures its contribution through sessions delivered, settings reached and audiences engaged, and reports impact openly to partners and the community.
